Charlie Curilan (instructor, Intensive Acting Class for Absolute Beginner) is an actor based in The Netherlands. He started as a classically-trained baritone who then launched his acting career as part of the original Dutch version of the Broadway hit musical, Miss Saigon in 1993. He has since been featured in several popular Dutch TV series Goede Tijden Slechte Tijden, Meiden van de Herengracht, A’dam en E.V.A., and JOS. He returned to musical theater in 2007 once again with Miss Saigon but this time in the Swedish version, staged by the Malmö Opera in Sweden. He was nominated Best Actor for his performance in the short film Stanley 911 at the 48HFP short film festival in Rotterdam in 2018. He won the award for Best Supporting Actor at the FilmstarZ Film Festival in Vlissingen, Netherlands, for his role in the short film Open Wound in 2019. He has performed in plays and showcase nights by GoGoHeart productions in Amsterdam. He has also been featured in local and international TV commercials, corporate films, and independent films. As a voiceover talent, his voice can be heard on radio, TV, and online campaigns.

He received his Diploma in Professional Acting from the Mulholland Academy, Department of Acting. He currently trains with L.A.-based acting coach, award-winning director, filmmaker, Loren Chadima, voted among “The Best Acting Coaches in the United States”, creator of the course “The Three Pillars of Intentional Acting”; after completing his six-month training, he was invited to be Assistant Instructor for the current cycle of Loren’s classes. He also regularly attends classes by Andy Garrison, founder of the Actor Training Studio in Kansas City, Missouri, and continues to practice scene work under Hollywood TV and film actor James Ciccone, Founder, Director, CEO at Actors Axiom – Show Up to Book the Role, in New York. He also completed Kevin Spacey’s acting course on Masterclass.com.

He has been invited to give masterclasses in musical theater performance, film acting, and singing for young performers at Yew Chung International Highschool in Hong Kong, Big Ben International Academy for Music & Performing Arts in Jakarta, Indonesia, the Broadway Youth of Cebu, Philippines, and at the Philippine Highschool for the Arts. He also offers one-on-one coaching for fellow actors in the Netherlands and the United States, successfully preparing them for auditions, most recently for one of his Absolute Beginners who was accepted to The Old Vic Intensive Summer course in London. As a language coach, he also offers classes in basic Dutch, English, and Accent Reduction.

In 2019, he entered an international monologue contest with a piece filmed at Alex Murphy’s camera acting course and was offered to be signed by 4 international booking agencies. He has since been internationally represented by Broocks Agency (http://broocksagency.com/) to clients including Netflix, HBO, and Disney/Marvel productions.
