The Acting Class for Absolute Beginners

Have you been wondering… “can I get up, play at things, act as though I am somebody else… comedically, dramatically? Can I do this acting thing… at least a little bit?”

Is there a curiosity to try it, test yourself out and kick up a little excitement for trying? Come, drop in for a cycle of weekly classes, to play-act-game-improvise-play some more. Give it a go. Learn what it is to “act” by… Acting.

This class is specifically designed for the complete, absolute beginner. It can be a spring board to experience a sense of the kind of playing actors do to begin to understand how one might get better at it. Though, the class is also offered in a way that just allows you to come and leap into exercises and role playing in a very loose and non stressful way. Weekly, we work with some structure, and then just try to enjoy the ride..see what all of us can create together. We will do a bit of script work too… you taking on only what you can handle.

This class, The Acting Class for Absolute Beginners, it is part I of our introduction to acting. Later, if you wish, you may progress to part II with The Foundations of Acting, and finally to part III with The Foundations of Acting with an Introduction to Acting for the Camera.

Your teacher:

Inés is an actress, singer, and theater maker. She holds a Master’s Degree in voice and acting from Fontys Hogeschool voor de Kunsten, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Musical Theater from CUA in Washington DC. Inés has over 14 years of International experience in the performing arts ranging from musical theater, classical theater, devised theater work, collaborative theater, puppetry, physical theater, theater for the deaf and childrens theater. She is fluent in English, Spanish and German and has trained and performed in the US (Washington DC, New York City), Germany, Austria, Colombia and The Netherlands. She is known for having originated the leading role of Tita in the US premiere of ‘Like Water for Chocolate’, in Washington DC.

Inés has been honored with the ‘Best Comedic Actress Award’ at the Miami Web Fest, and the ‘Best Ensemble Amets’ at the Bilbao Seriesland for her leading role in the series MARIAS, shot in Brooklyn, NY.

She is also a certified performing arts teacher (enACT NYC, DC Collaborative, PASO NUEVO) and believes in the power of the theater and acting to take people on important journeys of self discovery and growth.
