GOALS: To be able to play the language of Shakespeare (and his contemporaries).

To recognise the difference between Verse and Prose immediately.

To examine what is meant by Sonnet, Tragedy, Comedy, History, or Romance.

To ask any & all questions you have ever had about Shakespeare and his Times.

Every session starts with reading and picking apart sonnets.

Every session ends with presentation of either Sonnet or Monologue.

Module 1: Sonnets. Know the past to understand the present through his Sonnets. Our gateway drug to familiarity with the man himself.

Module 2: Comedies. It’s all fun and games until you analyse it.
We examine what the Comedies have in common using these narratives: Twelfth Night, Midsummer Nights Dream. As You Like It

Module 3: Histories. Whose stories? His and Hers? Theirs or Ours? We examine what the Histories have in common using these narrative: Richard 2nd, Richard 3rd. Henry 5th

Module 4: Tragedies. Are you kidding me? What’s my tragic flaw?

We examine what the Tragedies have in common using these narratives: King Lear, Macbeth. Hamlet

Module 5: Romances. It’ll all work out, right? Of course, but by what magic?

We examine what the Romances have in common using these narratives: Pericles, Cymbeline. The Tempest

Module 6: Monologues

We present our memorised Sonnets and Monologues in the form of a Shakespeare Karaoke show for friends, family and strangers.
